System Definition

Arcelik Eskisehir refrigerator factory has 5 different production lines, 2 main 

empty pallet buffering lines and 3 packaging lines. At the end of each packaging process, a refrigerator and its pallet gets seperated and empty pallet goes to the pallet feeding lines. Then each production line starts over the process by getting an empty pallet.

Problem Definition

 

During the production, when there is any technical problem occurs on the production lines, empty pallet feeding lines or packaging lines, it brings out congestion. Since all the lines are connected to eachother, delays and stoppages reveal in the production system. Other than that, the number of decision points which are controlled by the PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) machines located in the intersection of the conveyors are inadequate.

Proposed System and Solution                                      Approaches

After calculating the frequencies of the technical problems and adjusting them into probabilistic distributions, we're planning to use these distributions in our simulation model in Arena where we modelled the current system and where we will add new decision algorithms. These algorithms will check the existence of any technical problem that might occur in the system and will make its decision. By this way, any congestion caused by technical problems will be reduced. The other solution is the additional storages in the elevators where each production line gets empty pallets. When any technical problem occurs, this solution will prevent other production lines to be effected.
